All this growth has allowed DuckDuckGo to hit 100 million searches in a day. DuckDuckGo is going strong in the search engine market, marking its growing presence, with this milestone also proving its superiority against previous years.
DuckDuckGo almost reached an average of 90 million searches per day in January, 73% year over year increase from January 2020 and we averaged 52 million searches. And while the web searches aren't the only thing experiencing growth, the DuckDuckGo mobile app has also grown in popularity. It topped the iOS App Store charts for all free apps last week, and for all utility apps at that time.
DuckDuckGo is now the second most popular mobile search engine in the U.S., edging past Bing and Yahoo. Although it lags behind these competitors on desktop, with fewer desktop search growth opportunities than on mobile devices where more searches are performed.
DuckDuckGo's privacy features are what make it appealing for many users, without collecting and selling users' personal information for advertisers. As individual awareness regarding privacy issues increases in light of high profile investigations into the privacy practices of firms such as Facebook, Amazon, Apple, and Google, this part becomes more critical.
The demand for services that protect user data is on the rise, and privacy‑focused apps like Signal and Telegram have seen a recent surge in popularity with the apps now occupying top spots on the U.S. App Store. The more knowledgeable users become about how companies use their data, the more they're seeking alternatives that promise greater privacy.
Being a privacy centric platform and with DuckDuckGo’s usual growth, it is expected that the platform shall be successful. The streak to reach 100 million daily searches took far longer, but nonetheless bore the signs of a stable and growth positive (not negative) path. For that, DuckDuckGo would need to invest in more features, and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be pursued in future.
